WHEAT Women's Fund is a Southern African women's fund that promotes a culture of giving

WHEAT is a Southern African feminist grantmaker that supports women-led groups working with violence against women and related social issues. These include economic justice, HIV and AIDS and health, sexual and reproductive rights, young women and girls, women refugee groups, sexual minorities, sustainability, accountability and good governance. WHEAT is committed to empowering women from rural and peri-urban areas in Southern Africa.

WHEAT gives grants to women-led Community Based Organisations (CBO's) working in their communities that would not yet be able to access formal funding for various reasons; including pending registration, pending opening a bank account or skills that still need to be learned within the small organization. In addition, WHEAT supports these CBOs when they need to learn new skills that would promote their outreach in a more professional and visible manner. WHEAT encourages CBO's to gain accountability and good governance. WHEAT helps women become community leaders.

WHEAT's Vision:

WHEAT Women's Fund envisages a Southern Africa where all women enjoy their human rights and have access to education, training and sustainable incomes, made possible by promoting a culture of giving.

WHEAT’s Mission:

WHEAT Women's Fund is a grantmaking organisation that promotes a culture of giving to develop grassroots women's leadership to achieve social, economic and gender justice.

The name WHEAT comes from our history. We were previously known as the Women's Hope Education and Training Trust, or WHEAT Trust.
