WHEAT Women’s Fund envisages a Southern Africa where all women enjoy their human rights and have access to education, training and sustainable incomes, made possible by promoting a culture of giving.

WHEAT’s Mission:

WHEAT Women’s Fund is a grantmaking initiative that promotes a culture of giving to develop grassroots women's leadership to achieve social, economic and gender justice.

WHEAT Women's Fund was established to:

  • Generate a women's fund to which individual women and community groups can apply for grants in support of their education and training needs
  • Manage sustainable income for the women's fund in ways which promote a culture of giving among individuals, organizations and communities
  • Assist in the growth and development of grassroots community initiatives led by women 
  • Encourage leadership of women and girls

WHEAT Trust is a feminist organisation committed to women's empowerment through education and skills training. Our core values are trust, accountability, honesty, loyalty and respect.

WHEAT Women's Fund is committed to:

  • Being a professional, well-known Southern African women’s Fund giving Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and women-led community initiatives access to capacity building, training and leadership development
  • Awarding grants to women and women-led community groups to meet their education and training needs in support of grassroots community initiatives
  • Raising awareness of the importance of stimulating a culture of giving by Southern African individuals and corporates
  • Creating a sustainable fund and solid organisation through good governance, sound financial management and a committed workforce
  • Basing our granting on informed community needs and to track the progress of grantees through regular interaction and good systems
  • Entering into a sustained, long-term relationship with grantees, allowing them time to reach a level of sustainability, whereafter they can access formal funding
  • Networking with organisations with similar objectives in order to maximize collective efforts
  • Having a built-in planning, monitoring and evaluation system, integral to all WHEAT’s activities
  • Having an enabling, energised environment at WHEAT’s office and the best possible staff to carry out the work of the organisation
  • Promoting a movement of women supporting each other.
